Health sharing plans
Membership arrangements in which members contribute monthly and eligible medical costs are shared among the group, usually under a set of participation guidelines.
- Monthly contributions are often well below comparable insurance premiums
- Many members report straightforward sharing of eligible expenses
- Communities are frequently faith- or values-aligned, which members value
- Not insurance — sharing of any specific bill is not legally guaranteed
- Not regulated as insurance, and not backed by a state guaranty fund
- Guidelines commonly restrict pre-existing conditions and specified activities
